Teaching

Prior to teaching painting I like to review basic drawing techniques beginning with blind contour drawing, gesture drawing and modified blind contour. Other techniques follow if the student wishes to continue drawing. In painting I teach basic color theory and the proper use of the various media, then move on to composition.

I paint primarily in oils but also in watercolor and gouache. I also teach acrylic painting. Every medium has its differences. The objective is to help the students become independent artists in the medium of choice and for them to enjoy the learning process. We draw or paint from life, from photographs, or from the imagination, out in nature or in the studio.
